Haverford College to replace loans with grants for incoming first-year students, reduce loan burden for continuing students. In keeping with Haverford's core values of community and individual responsibility, those receiving grants will be invited to support a new endowment fund in the years after graduation "as their means allow and the spirit moves."
Pomona College Replaces Loans with Scholarships, Eliminates Student Debt
Pomona College will eliminate loans in financial aid packages and replace those amounts with scholarships, effective 2008-09. The change will apply to both current and future students and was approved by the College's Board of Trustees on Wednesday, December 12, 2007.
Harvard overhauls financial aid to cut tuition costs

Harvard University announced a dramatic financial aid overhaul on Monday that will slash the cost of tuition even for students from middle-class and upper middle-class families. The Ivy League school, the world's richest with a $35 billion endowment, said it will pay $120 million a year so families earning up to $180,000 a year will pay only as much as 10 percent of their income on annual tuition and fees.
Lehman Brothers Donates $10 Million to Spelman College
NEW YORK — Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. said October 17 it is donating $10 million to help develop a business and economics school at Spelman College, a liberal arts college attended mostly by black women. The school is designed to prepare more black women for careers on Wall Street, where Spelman president Beverly Daniel Tatum said they have been historically underrepresented. Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) will launch its new Robotics Engineering program--the first in the United States--with the "WPI Robotics Symposium: Engineering the Revolution." As of fall 2007, WPI is offering the nation's first bachelor's degree program in robotics engineering. This major, which crosses academic boundaries, is designed to prepare a new breed of engineer with the skills and imagination to develop intelligent machines that go beyond today's reality. Wittenberg Takes Standardized Test-Optional Approach for Admission
Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University, ranked among the nation's top liberal arts colleges, will now offer prospective students the option of submitting SAT or ACT scores with their application credentials effective immediately. The decision was recently announced during a faculty meeting on campus by Vice President for Enrollment Management Doug Swartz. ...In making the decision to allow applicants to decide whether or not to submit test scores, Swartz said he is confident that more accurate portraits of prospective students will result.

Loyola College in Maryland Opens its First "Green" Residence Hall
More than 340 of the first-year students moving onto Loyola’s Evergreen Campus on Friday Aug. 31 made College history by becoming the first residents of the Loyola’s new "green" residence hall. The five-story, 100,000-square-foot building includes a host of eco-friendly features, from steel structural beams made from 90 percent recycled scrap to the 20,000-square feet of planted grass on the roof designed to reduce heat absorption and increase water retention.
